Vísindavaka in Iceland is part of the European Researchers' Night, which is an event organised every year during the last weekend of September, with an event in around 340 towns and cities all over Europe!
The main objective is to bring together scientists and the public, show scientists and science in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and to raise awareness of the work of researchers and their contribution to society.
Researchers' Night offers the opportunity to discover research facilities that are usually not open to public, such as laboratories and research centres, use the most recent technologies and instruments with the guidance of scientists, participate in experiments, competitions and quizzes, watch demonstrations and simulations, exchange ideas and party with the researchers.
European Researchers' Night is funded by the Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions, under Horizon Europe, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.
